SWWUnion at the Indoor BUCS Finals!

Last weekend on 19th March, archers from all over SWWU made their way to Warwick for the Indoor BUCS Finals, with it being 2 years since the last one was held, old archers now graduated and new archers coming for their chance to shine.

Archers from Plymouth, Exeter, UWE, Bath, Bristol, Cardfii, Swansea and Bangor made the long journey to shoot a WA18 in the morning, and then followed by a H2H. A total of 41 SWWU archers made it though in the hopes of grabbing some gold, silver or bronze medals.

In the Individual events, Britsol’s Illaria Knibb seeded 2nd in Womens Barebow, and went on to win the bronze medal match 6-0 against Queen Mary’s Elizabeth Roberts. In addition, Swansea’s Sarah Weil seeded 2nd in Womens Longbow and went into the the gold medal match, but sadly lost 6-2 against Loughborough’s Katie Axup, but still gaining a silver medal!

And as an honourable mention, old SWWU member (now NEUAL) Tom Braxton (thats right, he is still going!), seeded 1st in Mens Recruve and went on to the gold medal match, but lost aginst Oxford’s Yang Pei 7-3, securing a silver medal, and a team bronze medal for Leeds in Mens Non-Compound Team.

Those who just missed out on a medal this year include Plymouth’s Alex Rowe, seeded 18th in Mens Recurve but managed to make his way to the bronze medal match but losing 7-1 to Warwick’s James Woodgate. Swansea’s Grace Barret-Rees, seeding 4th in Womens Compound, but making it to the Bronze medal match but losing in a shoot off to Birmingham’s Zara Green.

The day was filled with new archers experiencing their first BUCS Finals, and in some cases, their first H2H matches, more stealing mascots, flag wearing and SWWU chanting whenever Warwick and Birmingham even attempt to try and be like their superior league.

With the recent annoucment that BUTC is now being pushed back to November, this marks the end of the indoor season 2021/22, but that does not mean it is the end of SWWU Legs! Outdoor legs are now being discussed with the hope of cornfiming them either before or during the Easter holidays, with one of them being the SWWU Championships! Along with this, also comes Outdoor BUCS in June, so get those outdoor arrows prepared and remember your umbrellas and waterproofs. More details on all of these will be released soon.

Lastly, it was great to see so many of you guys again after a long and hard two years, you all shot brilliantly and I hope you all had safe journeys back, and I wish you all a happy easter! See you all soon for the outdoor season.

LONG LIVE THE IMMORTAL SWWU!!!!
