SWWU clubs were out in force as the BUCS Indoor Qualifiers rolled around once again!
Aberystwyth took part in the Central qualifiers in Manchester, while the other clubs met at the Southern Qualifier in Bristol. Archers shot a Portsmouth round, competing to secure places at the national finals in Warwick on March 14th. Scores were also used to calculate team scores for the SWWU league tables.
In the SWWU experienced team league, Plymouth once again finished top with a combined score of 2236, their largest total this year! Bath had a very successful day, finishing second with a score of 2208, with Exeter finishing in third with 2177 points.
In the SWWU novice team league, Plymouth picked up first place once again with a score of 1367. They are yet to drop points in both the experienced and novice leagues. Aberystwyth put in an impressive performance, scoring 1328 to place second, with Bristol’s 1307 placing them third.
In the SWWU compound team league, Cardiff finished first with 1121, followed by Exeter with 1110 and a surprise third place finish by BANGOR (no, really!!) with 1082.
Several individuals put in a strong performance, including Plymouth’s Joe Tripp, who placed 2nd in the men’s experienced recurve category, beating SWWU coordinator and Leeds archer Tom Braxton by a single ten. The women’s category was just as competitive, with only a few points separating Bath’s Charlotte Lunt (558) and Johanna Meyer (554) and Cardiff’s Joanne Humphreys (552). SWWU archers locked out the top three spaces in the men’s barebow category across the country, with Plymouth’s Lonja Selter setting a new all-unis and BUCS record of 558 to take first, followed by Aberystwyth’s Tobias Johnson (548) and Bath’s Paul Cobee (542). In the women’s experienced barebow competition, Plymouth’s Eloise Hepburn finished 2nd in the Southern qualifiers, setting a new SWWU record of 510. SWWU also dominated in the longbow class once again, with Plymouth’s Emma King shooting a new PB and SWWU record of 412 to take first across the country, ahead of Swansea’s Keely Pringle (second, 408) and Stacy Oswald who, as a novice, placed third across all women’s longbow archers across the country with a score of 333. Other notable novice performances include Bristol’s Charlotte Cooke, who won the women’s novice barebow competition with a score of 425 and Cardiff’s Jack Sharman, who took second place in the men’s novice barebow category with a score of 487.
