What’s good SWWU fam, welcome back to another thrilling write-up where I tell you things you probably already know.
This SWWU was marked by some pretty serious travel disruptions with only 2 Bristol Archers being able to make it due to train cancellations and Cardiff getting a flat tyre leaving only 1 archer. However, this does mean a fun shake-up to all the rankings as others gain points on Bristol!
We also missed our dear president Alex W who was out getting his eyes fixed (go wish him well next time you see him). However, he was with us in spirit as he attempted to help with Ianseo’s issues despite not being able to see. The blind leading the blind indeed. His absence seems to have bolstered competition though with Luke Burch gunning for that top REM spot.
We also had a whole heap of mascot stealing (perhaps Plymouth’s whimsical nature infected everyone there) which has given rise to my favourite SWWU picture of all time. Something about a grown man charging a little swan and Marilyn diving on it to protect it makes me laugh. It’s that SWWU energy I think. Our MSL scores stand as follows:
Finally, onto the reason we’re actually here, the results!
Starting with the REM, Luke Burch takes the top spot with an impressive 576 followed by Baths’ Josh Watts with second and Harry Lam in third with just one point between them. On the female front, Bristol’s Magdalena Kazmierczak wins gold. Just behind her is Amy Roadknight and Grace Addicott from Plymouth who make the home team proud.
The RNM was a close-fought battle with 7 points between third and first. Coming out on top was Swansea’s Archie Phillips and just behind him was Bristol’s Matthew Pierce and UWE’s Siddique Pathan who won silver and bronze respectively. RNW was a little less intense but showing up is half the battle as Priya Sitlani takes gold and Eve Shipp takes silver.
Moving onto those who leave their bows bare (BEM).UWE’s Aaron Shanks takes first place leaving second and third for Exeters’ Kieran Cowan and Arthur Fill. Once again Marilyn Wong takes gold for the BEW (will she ever be stopped?) and silver is won by Jess Hobbs leaving bronze for Aber’s Abi Cox.
For the BNM we had Quinnan Lee-Almond win gold with George Whitehead taking silver. Victoria Lytka and Hannah Wagstaff took first and second respectively for the ladies.
The CEM was a very tight race with Dan Hickman just beating Corey Richardson by 3 points to take gold! Swansea’s Caitlin Willoughby takes gold in CEW all by her lonesome.
Finally, onto the experienced longbow division, we had Sean Hughes take gold for the men and Rhiannon Wood for the women.
Now the team results! Bath takes gold in the Experienced Teams with Plymouth winning silver and Exeter taking bronze. For the Novices, Exeter comes resoundingly first followed by Plymouth and Swansea. Finally, Swansea wins gold in the compound teams with a Plymouth Silver.
This leg has given us some big shake-ups in the league rankings so head to the standings page to see how it all stands now.
Thank you once again for taking the time to read my ramblings and looking forward to seeing you all in an exciting frostbite in Exeter!
